Winding down a successful cross-country tour in partnership with School Of Doodle, Colleen Green and Upset landed in Santa Barbara for their final show, keeping close to their roots with an all-ages show at the FUNZONE. Local support was provided by Massenger, (Ventura, CA), and the spunky duo Honey Maid from Santa Barbara. Right before this tour kicked off, we caught up with Colleen Green at Burgerama IV, and the small mirrored rec room magnified the personal intensity of her newest songs from I Want To Grow Up. A savage take on "Pay Attention" set the stage for what was to come.
Hard to believe that we haven't crossed paths with Upset since last fall at the Bootleg Theater, and as support for Radiator Hospital in Boyle Heights. With the new cassette EP '76, out on Lauren Records, the lineup that was fresh in the fall has solidified, with Lauren Freeman and Slutever's Rachel Gagliardi joining to dial up the punk edge. The night was given gloss by the celebration of Patty Schemel's birthday, and leader Ali Koehler shook off an ill-advised pre-show trip to the batting cages to deliver a rousing set. While the late, great Living Room is missed dearly, FUNZONE has stepped up to the plate to keep an active roster of all-ages DIY shows coming to the area.
