R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

Sad news from London today with the passing of Amy Winehouse at 27. While notorious more of late for her lifestyle and tabloid presence, take a moment to remember the talent, that sadly, never got to realize its full potential.

The Amy I'll remember was poised on the cusp of stardom in 2007. These pictures come from her initial Coachella appearance, and she was in fine form: taken aback at the audience packed in the tent just for her, and stoked at having just met Danny DeVito backstage.

Backed by the Dap Kings, she gave a rousing account of songs from 'Back In Black', which went on to move 10M units...followed by a Rolling Stone cover, and an almost paralyzing noteriety, as she tried to find her way through unexpected stardom...

Hamstrung by legal issues and habits that kept derailing her attempted comebacks, including having to scratch a homecoming appearance at Coachella in 2009, (to be replaced by M.I.A.), and a disasterous recent live appearance that gave no credence to the rumors of a new album that was in any given stage of production depending on who one asked.

It's a sad end for someone who helped kick start a whole new wing of British talent, and never got to fully reap the rewards. Hopefully peace awaits her now...

Dolphy Lives!

Here's another interesting Kickstarter project that's in its home stretch of seeking funding...A graphic novel based on the life of sax legend Eric Dolphy. Can't wait to see the finished product!
